Gname the Gnome Contest

I just love contests and Andie has come up with the best contest you could possibly have… naming a new gnome. I suggested Fiachra (FEE-akh-ra) who is the patron saint of gardeners. If you’d like to have your say, head over to her wee blog.

This wee lad is a bit smaller then the average gnome, though that never stopped anygnome from going on to do big things.

Garden gnomes ride for free

One of the nice perks of the London Underground is that gnomes are allowed to ride for free.

Air Gnome

I decided this past weekend to take a trip over to London for the Mushroom Festival at Carluccio’s in Spitalfields Market. I had to store my little pickaxe in a locker before going through airport security.

Garden gnome falsehood exposed

Several of us in the gnome community have received complaints about the production and distribution of the Bush Gnome. The Gnome Council has decided that this is merely a figurine and should not be confused with an actual garden gnome artifact.

Gnomes are peaceful creatures, and would never present themselves in the following way: Dubyah is ready for combat! Order the gnome-sized gun to make him complete. With a camo outfit and combat boots, this little guy is ready to handle your personal “home-lawn security.”

Never heard of a goldendoodle before, but any friend of a garden gnome is a friend of mine …

Garden gnomes more popular than tacos (in the UK)

I just love the wee folks at Google. Google is like having a Gnome King in every house. So wise.

Percy suggested I try out Google Trends and I’ve been able to find out all sorts of interesting info, like the fact that “garden gnomes” are more popular that “tacos” in the UK. This may suggest that opening a garden shop would be a better business decision than a Taco Bell.

Garden Gnome Visible from Space?

Some of the fine folks in Germany have created a garden gnome made from flowers. If you follow this wee link you can fly to the garden gnome using Google Earth. Not quite the Great Wall, but still a site to behold.

The Gnome Reserve

This sounds like a lovely little holiday and look how happy the children are … though I would be smothered by that hat.

Set amid truly rural countryside between Bideford and Bude just 7 miles from the Devon Cornwall border. The 4 acre Reserve comprises woodland, stream, 30 yard pond, meadow and garden – home to 1000+ gnomes and pixies, and about 250 labeled species of wild flowers, herbs, grasses and ferns.

Gnome hats are loaned free of charge together with fishing rods, so you don’t embarrass the gnomes!

A Culture All Its Own

A lovely article by little David G. Petten.

… Garden Gnomes are wonderful creatures that are very good luck to have in your garden. They are primarily vegetarians, joyful little people who enjoy having fun and helping out with things. It is believed that having one in your garden will be helpful in the day-to-day activities that are necessary to proper garden management. It is believed that they have an excellent ability to be able to reflect on history and an even better perspective on the future.
