Gnome-in-a-box
I’m still not sure why it plays “Pop Goes the Weasel”, as opposed to a nice Irish jig. No surprise that it is a best seller.
A Gnome Jack-in-the-box! It doesn’t get much better than this. The loveable (and adorable!) little gnome will pop up and delight both kids and adults. Crank the handle to hear a simple song of “Pop Goes the Weasel” and up he’ll pop right on cue.
Putting the fun in fungus
Though the rain has been oppressive over the Summer, it has helped the mushrooms grow. Mushroom season continues into October and I hope to gather some Agaricus campestris in the next few days. I came across several fairy rings of them yesterday.
Gnomebearers
Though I was a bit offended by a few of the Gnome-Be-Gone product descriptions on the site, the following did catch my fancy and reminded me fondly of crowdsurfing during Gossip’s set at Glastonbury.

She’s alright, she’s alright, she’s alright …
I hope shenanigans like this don’t lead to increased gnome security at airports. I enjoy the freedom of air travel and don’t like getting my tunic wrinkled.
Linda Martin, 54, of South Africa, was caught at Auckland International Airport with more than 3kg of the class A drug, which had been stashed in ornamental gnomes packed in her suitcase.
Martin claimed she knew nothing of the cocaine, but was duped by a Nigerian drug ring, which made threats against her family, into believing she was doing a dummy run.
Gnome-Inspired Greetings
There’s nothing like a gnome to make any occasion a cause for celebration. Each of these simple, modern greeting cards shows gnomes doing what they do best: teaching birds to sing, flying a kite, swinging from trees, planting seeds in the forest, and more. The cards feature vibrant solid-color backgrounds with white silhouettes of the gnome in action. Your friends and family will be delighted to follow the gnome through meadows, into the woods, and up trees, especially if you send different cards for a sequence of occasions.

Gardening with 1,500 gnomes
Jean, you are a brave, brave woman. I often struggle with just a weekend at the in-laws.
If you are struggling to keep up with your garden in the see-sawing conditions of summer drought and flood, why not follow Jean Balcombe’s example and fill your patch with gnomes.
The 67-year-old has covered almost every inch of her garden in Willesborough, Kent, with a collection of 1,500 gnomes.
